So square

Earlier this year my dad lent me his two film cameras. One is an SLR, an old Canon built like a tank. The other is a Yashica TLR, an old Japanese version of its famous German counterpart, the Rolleiflex. Every once in a while I'll bust out one of these cameras and try my hand at shooting in film. It's a bit tricky because unlike digital, you can't take a gazillion photos. Exposure, aperture, ISO, composition--all that comes into play and is more crucial to get it right in camera because you can only do so much in post-production. I've got a lot to learn, but practice makes perfect, right? Plus it's really fun.

The above photo is my favorite from the first roll I shot with the Yashica, taken at Crissy field on an evening of one of Yoshi's swimming lessons. Gotta love square photos!
