I'm drinking tonight, like I do every night

Please excuse me, I'm halfway to being drunk. I might ramble. But I feel like I should blog because Yoshi is occupied with Tom. I think they're rehearsing some kind of dance they're going to put on for me tomorrow. There's a lot of jumping going on in the background.

It's a cold, rainy Saturday. Yoshi went to a birthday-swim party. You would never think of having a swim party in February, but that's why they invented indoor swimming pools. Yoshi had fun despite being cold with blue lips after being in the pool too long. On the way there, while walking to the bus stop in the rain, Yoshi said, "My toes are W's," referring to her curled up toes to keep her feet from slipping out of her Crocs knockoff shoes. Oh Yoshi, I hope you always keep your charming imagery skills. The other day, as she played with legos, she casually said, "You never know when you've lived half your life until you die." Wha? Where does she come up with this?

Tonight looks like it'll be a night indoors, drinking wine and living up the Parent life. Maybe we'll really get into the spirit and watch an episode or two of Mad Men. I don't think we're even having dinner because we had a late and heavy lunch. It'll be something random like a hard-boiled egg, green beans, and chocolate chip cookies. And more wine.

It's Presidents weekend, so we all get Monday off. Yay! Tomorrrow we're going to drive around. To where, I'm not sure. But that's okay. We reserved a BMW zipcar for the occasion. Yeah, we're fancy like that.

The other day I went to the 826 Valencia Spelling Bee for Cheaters. It was hilarious and so fun. I went with a group of other friends, mostly other moms from Yoshi's schools, and we had a blast. I hope next year Tom will be able to go. A few of my friends were on the teams there and it was great to see them on stage in a Spelling Bee full of snark wit and awesomeness. And to be honest, I was really happy to have organized my friends in a group activity. Tom usually is the one to instigate things, and it's a great quality he has, being social. I'm trying harder to be more social and start things.

I've been hanging out more with my novelist-friend and about a month ago, while we shared a pitcher of margaritas at lunch, he somehow managed to get me into reading fiction again. It's nice. I forgot how lovely it is to escape into a book. We went to one of the used bookstores in my neighborhood and he picked out a book under my request for it to be suitable for someone with a short attention span. It was actually his second choice book because his first choice book was not in the bookstore. I'm curious as to what the first choice was. And so I read The Confessions of Max Tivoli, by Andrew Sean Greer. And I enjoyed it so much I decided to read more. Now I'm reading some short stories by Murakami. But after I finish this, what will I read next?
