My Bike and Me
Yesterday, Tom and I took advantage of Yoshi being at a sleepover and spent a lovely morning at the farmer's market at the Ferry Building. I made Tom take a pic of me with my birthday present he and Yoshi gave me – my new Public bike! This bike gives me such joy to ride. Public Bikes was founded by the same Rob Forbes, who also founded Design Within Reach, so you know it's a beautiful design.
Because it's super upright, I have a great view of what's around me, as opposed to being hunched over like on my previous road bike (which got stolen a while back, boo!). It gives bike riding a casual approach and lets you appreciate your surroundings. It's great for city riding because the upright position allows for better visibility both for the rider as well as a drivers in cars. And its step-through frame lets me wear skirts and dresses!
Oh, and did I mention my awesome helmet? Yakkay makes beautiful helmets, with interchangeable covers so you can mix and match your style to your mood. The price definitely challenged my budget, but I needed a new helmet anyway since my other one was 10 years old and cracking, so I took the plunge and got this one at My Dutch Bike shop on Market Street.
And because you all know I'm a validation whore, I love the compliments I get when I ride.
I feel like a kid again. Whee!
