My head hurts. Sew what?

Ugh. I have some kind of sinus head cold thing. I started feeling sick last week, although yesterday was definitely the worst with some kinda of gross eyeball feeling, pounding headache, nonstop sneezing, and stuffed up nose. From 3am to 6pm I stayed on the couch, but apparently felt well enough to take an instagram vanity shot.

Today I'm well enough to venture outside. The housecleaners came today to do their magic, so I cleared out of the house when they got here and went to the fabric store to pick out something decent for a new sewing project. I instantly got overwhelmed with the fabric selection. Print or solid? Cotton or wool? Lightweight or something heavier? I eventually picked out some kind of rayon or synthetic print. It looks nice and the woman helping me out said that it shouldn't be very difficult to work with. And if all goes well, I'll sew the pattern again with something a little nicer. It's been years since I sewed anything substantial with a sewing machine, so I hope this will be more enjoyable and less painful than, say, embroidery.

The dress pattern is about as basic as you can get. The pattern only has two pieces. No zipper even. There's minor pleating and I have to use bias tape, but I think it should be fairly straight forward. Wish me luck!

So many questions ... Did you feel like something was behind your eyeballs trying to press congestions out of your tear ducts? Did you have to flip from side to side to reduce the pressure in your sinuses and ears when you slept? If so, you got the nasty head cold that is going around SF like the stomach flu in an elementary school cafegymatorium (see school email today?) or an SF Catholic High School(oh snap!)

What's it like having a cleaning person? What are the rules? Would you recommend them? hint hint. Will they pick up and tidy or only clean?

I know I ask you to teach me stuff all the time, but a real goal is to use a sewing machine and not hear my mother screech, "Watch your fingers!" and maintain a straight line.

Stay Healthy I'll bug you later!

I told Tom my eyeballs felt "sticky." Blinking them feels weird, sort of like when you get pinkeye with that mucus gluing them shut, but not that extreme. I actually slept on the couch so I could lie/sit more upright and have less pressure squeezing my face. It wasn't that comfortable though, sleeping sitting up. So yes, it looks like I have that nasty head cold. Wah! I feel better today though (even managed to drop Yoshi off at school).

A cleaning person (or team, as I found out when I actually saw them yesterday) is so awesome, I can hardly say. They don't clean the bedrooms though (at our request) because Yoshi's room looks like a tornado went through it and they would probably charge double to go through all that. And ours is a dumping ground and I don't think they could actually get it clean. But they do all that tub/toilet/sink deep cleaning that I rarely do. They empty the dishwasher and load up the dirty dishes that stack up in on the counter. They mop/vacuum/dust. It's amazing. The only thing we do before they get here is pick up the random clutter (not always an easy task), basically "cleaning so they can clean."

The cleaners only come once a month, but I've noticed that our house, in general, has stayed cleaner between visits than before we hired them (it's been about a year now). I love coming home to a clean house. It practically sparkles. We went out to dinner last night because Tom didn't want to dirty the kitchen. "Let's enjoy the cleanness while we can!" he said.

If you want, I'll have Tom forward you their contact info. They clean like 4 of the 6 units in our building. We're a gold mine for them! ;)
