Happy New Year!

In addition to having a blast at the Fillmore seeing Calexico and Las Cefeteras for a New Year's Eve fiesta, I received a heart-stopping piece of writing from a far-away friend to kick-start the night. An exhilarating end to an adventurous year.

And I'm going to enjoy 2014 even more, if that's possible.

Three Oh!

So I'm thirty years old now. It's gonna be my year. I can feel it.

My birthday was on the 12th. My super awesome hubster threw me a super awesome surprise party. While I can't say I didn't have my suspicions, what with him cleaning the house like a maniac, doing yard work, multiple loads of laundry, and even cleaning the toilet, I can say that the party theme was a complete surprise. It was a craft party, with all the guests asked to make a crafty version of yours truly, Tom and some friends provided the crafty supplies. I received a papier-mâchéed pink robot of me, macaroni runner of me, a popsicle stick cheerleader version of me, a cardboard poem version of me... it goes on and on. I received some great gifts, including this super awesome potholder/trivet set made with kettle-dyed cotton and linen yarn in a Tunisian crochet stitch. It was so great to see my friends and the crafts they made. So creative!

And I got not one, but two Fudgie The Whale ice cream cakes complete with chocolate crunchy goodness. Fun!

The weird thing was that Yoshi told me about a surprise birthday party for me a few days before my birthday. "There's going to be a surprise party for you! With two cakes (later she tells me it will be Fudgie the Whale) and cupcakes... and your friends will be there... and there will be a few of my friends too so I will have someone to play with..." Tom swears that he never told Yoshi because she can't keep a secret. But she ended up making up the truth!
